Dancehall hero Vybz Kartel has step forward to address growing criticism surrounding him not performing on last year Sting.

In a interview last week with radio personality Jenny Jenny, on Hitz 92 FM, Vybz Kartel was unapologetic about not performing on the Sting show.

“Me is a person, me stand up fi dancehall music and stand up for what is right, because even a certain artiste weh did deh pon TV last week a seh who, Kartel a diss poor people when him nah do di show. That same artiste doan do the show, apparently because him doan get him money. So why him neva hold di same sentiment and seh him a do the show fi poor people?”

Vybz Kartel also address accusations that he charged the Supreme promotions, the promoters of Sting, an exhorbitant JM$ 5 million to appear on the show.

“Mi neva tell nuhbody seh mi waan $5 million dollars, mi tell people seh mi want a substantial amount of money.”

The usually articulate Vybz Kartel said he stands up for dancehall all the time unlike many other dancehall artists. Vybz relates how hurt he felt by the allegations.

“It really hurt mi because mi a stand up fi dancehall and some other artiste nah stand up fi dancehall.”

In the interview, Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, address other topics including the police raid on the Building night club the night of Sting.

Kartel said he is organising a free concert to make it up to the patrons who attended the show that night.

Do you think Vybz Kartel was defending dancehall by not performing on Sting?
