August Alsina has opened up about his addiction to Percocet and how Jada Pinkett-Smith helped him get over it.

For the first time, the R&B singer is speaking out about his past addiction to Percocet and how he finally regained control over his life. August Alsina sat down on Jada Pinkett Smith’s “Red Table Talk” where broke things down for everyone about his addiction. “I was pretty much doing way too many shows, not taking care of myself,” the 25-year-old singer said. “I was drinking so much liquor. Smoking so much weed. Just one night at a show in New York, I literally passed out and fell off the stage.”

In September 2014, August Alsina collapse on stage at one of his concerts in New York City. He was hospitalized for a few days after going into a coma. It seems he also injured himself during the fall and doctors prescribed him Percocet painkillers to help with his pain. But then, like so many other people, he got hooked on them. “I was literally raining pills like Skittles,” he said.

August says he reached out to Will Smith and Jada for help and that’s how he got clean. Pinkett-Smith revealed that the R&B singer was downing around six pills per day. August says he finally made a breakthrough when Pinkett-Smith called him one day when he was on tour and she broke down in tears about his addiction.

“That was the thing,” he added. “To feel your emotion and to hear you bawling. That was a reality check for me. I was like, ‘Wow, if someone else can love you that much that it hurts them, why doesn’t it bother you that you are actually hurting yourself?’ That moment really changed the trajectory of my life.”
