The stars are out in their numbers wearing black at the Golden Globes but Twitter has some mixed reactions.
If you have been tuning into the 75th annual Golden Globes Award ceremony, you would have noticed that almost all of the stars are wearing black in solidarity with the #MeToo movement and overall equality in the workplace and other segments of society. The #MeToo movement” shake up Hollywood last year and this year it’s showing no signs of slowing down. Despite the overall positive reception for the call for equality and an end to assault and harassment in the workplace, some folks on Twitter are asking why did it take so long.
On Sunday night, the Golden Globes red carpet was littered with stars wearing black, but one thing was particularly significant, eight prominent female activists walked the red carpet in the company of some big name stars to help shine more light on what they have been doing in the gender equality arena. They include Tarana Burke who is the founder of the #MeToo movement and senior director of the nonprofit group Girls for Gender Equity. Burke was accompanied on the red carpet by Marai Larasi and Michelle Williams.
Justin Timberlake in particular, was called out by users on Twitter who questioned why he was supporting the #TimesUp movement while still working with Woody Allen and Roman Polanski.

All Hollywood wearing black today for what?? Why didn't you speak out before when you knew what was going on? Dressing in black doesn't change the fact that you enabled perverts in your industry!! #BOYCOTTTHEGOLDENGLOBES #WhyWeWearBlack

It’s ridiculous wearing black to an awards show. It’s not enough. Boycott the entire season by NOT attending any awards events. Sexual assault doesn’t recognize your dress color. #GoldenGlobes
