Nelly‘s rape accuser has dropped her case against him but cops are still investigating the alleged crime.
This means that Nelly is not fully off the hook yet. Last week, the rapper’s accuser revealed that she will stop pursuing the case against “Country Grammar” star because she can’t go up against a celebrity who has unlimited resources. She is also refusing to testify in the case. Despite her noncooperation, cops are still actively investigating the case.
Auburn PD is not letting the case go and plans to present the prosecutor with evidence in the coming week, TMZ reported. So it will now be up to the prosecutor to decide if he wants to file charges against the rap star. Last weekend, Nelly performed in South Florida with T.I. where he was seen in good spirit as if a weight has been lifted off his shoulder. Nevertheless, his attorney, Scott Rosenblum, says he is confident that the case will be closed base on the evidence presented or lack thereof. “I would expect the police to do their due diligence,” he added.
While Nelly can breathe a sigh of relief from the accuser refusal to cooperate with police, he is still not completely off the hook. If the prosecutor decides to file rape charges against him, it means that he will have to stand trial and at the very least that will taint his brand. During a rant on Twitter last week, Nelly indicated that he would explore legal options against his accuser for defamation and for damaging the reputation of his good name. It’s still not clear if he will still pursue that option. At the very least he wants this whole case to go away.
Nelly is currently touring the U.S. with Florida Georgia Line band and was set for a performance in Washington at the time of his arrest.
