Popcaan has been getting a lot of hate among dancehall fans since Shawn Storm outed him as an informer. But is he the most hated artist in dancehall?
Last week, the “Unruly Boss” deejay revealed in an interview with BBC 1Xtra radio that 99% of dancehall hates him. He also explained how he came up with that number by saying that one artist can control up to 50% of the dancehall fan base while some could control as much as 30 and 20 percent. Was his argument justified or was he reacting to the hate he has been getting recently from the Gaza.
A source close to Popcaan told DHH that he strongly believes that several big name artists hate him because of his massive success. Some big names came up like Vybz Kartel, Beenie Man, Mavado, Alkaline, Tommy Lee, among others. “All these artists control a large segment of dancehall and you know that however these artists feel their fans will feel the same way,” sources said. “When you look at it closely you will realize it’s just badmind because Unruly gone international. These guys don’t want to see young artists blow up and get big so when we talk about the 99% it’s very real.”
While Popcaan has been getting a lot of criticism from some dancehall fans, his loyal supporters are still riding with him. But his is fan base large enough to weather the storm. Sound off in comments below.
