Criticism Rains Down On Rihanna For Portraying Rape And Murder In “Man Down” Video

Rihanna is receiving harsh criticism from a number of groups for her latest video “Man Down,” which was shot in Jamaica.

The Parents Television Council is outraged by the songstress’ visual which shows her gunning down a man that s3xually assaulted her.

Melissa Henson of the Parents Television Council released a statement on the video saying,

“Instead of telling victims they should seek help, Rihanna released a music video that gives retaliation in the form of premeditated murder the imprimatur of acceptability.”

In addition to the PTC, Rihanna is also receiving criticism from ‘Industry Ears’ a group that campaigns against negative images in the media.

Paul Porter, co-founder of Indstry Ears, lashed out at the singer for the video saying, “If Chris Brown shot a woman in his new video and BET premiered it, the world would stop. Rihanna should not get a pass.”

He also adds that in 30 years he had never seen such a “cold, calculated execution of murder” in primetime.

Although she’s received negative reviews, Rihanna continues to stand by the video.

She previously told her fans on Twitter,

“Young girls/women all over the world…we are a lot of things! We’re strong innocent fun flirtatious vulnerable, and sometimes our innocence can cause us to be naive! We always think it could NEVER be us, but in reality, it can happen to ANY of us! So ladies be careful.”
