Dancehall deejay Mavado will be performing on this year staging of the popular Rebel Salute show under the name David Brooks.
Over the years several dancehall artists including Lady Saw and Assassin have performed on the show under their real name, rather than their hardcore alter egos.
This year, Mavado, whose real name is David Brooks, will grace the stage of the popular roots reggae show leaving his hardcore alter ego at home.
Since the announcement last week at the launch of the show, there has been many questions as to why Vado was included in the lineup. The show promoter, Tony Rebel, reiterates the deejay’s positive side.
“Over the years we have been fearless explorers of the music business and this is just one way we are exploring the music of this artiste who does have good material. David Brooks does have a good side, and that’s the side we want to encourage.”
This year’s lineup will also see two additional new faces that will no doubt pull out fans to the show. Female dancehall veteran Tanya Stephens and Grammy winner Toots Hibbert will grace the stage.
Rebel also announce the inclusion of Sierra Leone Refugee All Stars on the roster.
The roster includes Beres Hammond, who returns after a seven-year absence, Tarrus Riley, Queen Ifrica, I-Octane, Ken Boothe, Khago, Chuck Fenda, Fantan Mojah, Nadine Sutherland, Dennis Alcapone, Jack Radics, AJ Brown and Tristan Palmer.
