Love can hurt, just ask Nicki Minaj.
Not very often we see the emotional side of Nicki Minaj, but we got a glimpse of it on her new album and during her interview yesterday with Power 105.1’s Angie Martinez.
The “Only” rapper broke down in tears while speaking candidly about her 12-year relationship with Safaree Samuels and their breakup.
“My relationship was based off of love,” Nicki told Angie Martinez. “And there still is nothing but love there. This is not some person I picked up off the street. This is somebody I grew up with. Like I don’t even know how I’m gonna function without that person in my life. I’ve never lived my life as a famous person without him.”
“I don’t think people realize it’s not just a relationship or breakup,” she said while shedding tears. “That was a humongous part of my life. It is something that I am dealing with publicly and it’s not easy. I’m also not gonna joke about it or try to disrespect him and try to act like he didn’t mean the world to me and still doesn’t mean the world to me. I’m just figuring it out.”
Nicki Minaj blame their breakup on her very public life a the top female rapper in the game. She said they would have kids and be married by now if she wasn’t a global star.
Nicki’s new album The PinkPrint is now out and she raps a lot about love and heart break on the project.
She also said she wasn’t single when she wrote some of the songs like “Only,” which caused a lot of controversy with her ex Safaree.
