Buju Banton Release Date Set For February 2019

Incarcerated Reggae star Buju Banton will remain behind bars until February 2019.

According to the US Federal Bureau of Prisons website, Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, will spend 8 years in prison. This news clarifies speculations that he will serve 6 years after time already spent in jail and good behavior.

Buju Banton was convicted in February of this year on drug trafficking related charges. Banton was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Federal Judge James Moody, after an outcry from the singer’s celebrity friends and kids.

Buju Banton lawyer, David Markus, has indicated that he will be filing an appeal on behalf of the reggae icon.

Buju Banton is still in transit to a Mississippi prison.
