Lil Uzi just turned 25, and according to him, that means he’s officially old.
It seems an old tweet that Lil Uzi Vert sent out two years ago is coming back to haunt him. Perhaps he didn’t know time would go by so fast. Back in August 2017, the Philly rapper sent out a tweet bashing every other rapper who is 25 years old and over. How ironic that he now turns 25, which means he officially joins the old head crew. “If you 25 and up you a old n***a point blank,” he tweeted.
It’s an interesting thought considering how often rap careers come and go in today’s age of hip hop. Plenty of artists have popped on the scene and shown clear influences from Uzi’s melodic style since his debut mixtape in 2014. (He told us as much on Playboy Carti’s “Woke Up Like This.”) Five years later Lil Uzi is a household name and well-respected artist in the industry.
Still, he isn’t in the same rap class (or age group) as MCs who most would consider the “old heads” of the game like Jay-Z, 49, or Nas, 45, who are both still active in the music scene. Uzi isn’t even as old as Drake, J. Cole or Kendrick Lamar.

He is, however, accredited for his part in birthing the “mumble rap” era, and his fellow classmates on the 2016 XXL Freshman class cover – 21 Savage, Kodak Black, Lil Yachty, Desiigner and more – could all be considered “old heads” to newer artists with younger fanbases like Lil Pump, 18, Blueface, 22 or Trippie Redd who is 20 years old.
In any case, Uzi, born Symere Woods, probably feels like an “old n*gga” considering the challenges he’s already faced in his 5-year career. The “Luv is Rage” rapper has been in an ongoing battle with his record label, Generation Now, a subset of Atlantic Records, over the release of his long-awaited project “Eternal Atake.” The conflict has gotten so heated that Uzi threatened to give up rap altogether and retire from the biz back in April.
So on his big 25th birthday, it wouldn’t be surprising if Lil Uzi indeed feels he ascended to old head status. Maybe soon he’ll even drop the “Lil” from his stage name.
