Vybz Kartel Trial Day 3: Judge To Hand Down Crucial Ruling

Vybz Kartel returns to court today for day three of his high profile murder trial in the Home Circuit Court.

Today Justice Bryan Sykes will hand down a crucial ruling on an application made by the prosecution to have a witness statement be entered into evidence under section 31(D) of the Evidence Act.

Vybz Kartel Trial Update: Prosecution File Motion To Have Witness Statement As Evidence

Prosecutors filed the motion yesterday after their key witness refused to cooperating and may be in hiding.

Vybz Kartel and his co-accused lawyers are expected to challenge the prosecution motion.

Vybz Kartel is on trial for the murder of St. Catherine businessman/promoter Barrington “Bossie” Burton.

Nigel Thompson and Lenburgh McDonald are all charged with Burton’s murder.

Detectives say Burton was shot and killed on July 12, 2011 while standing with a group of friends along Walkers Avenue in Gregory Park, St. Catherine.

Vybz Kartel supporters are already gathering outside the court shouting “free Worl’Boss.”

Update:
The judge has asked the jury to be absent from court until next week Tuesday. During that time Justice Bryan Sykes will hear arguments from both prosecution and defense regarding a motion to have a witness statement be entered into evidence.

Sykes will hand down his ruling by Monday.
