British-Indian reggae star Deewan was one of the big surprises at this year’s Reggae Sumfest.
The singer/producer rocked the stage with dancehall legend Bounty Killer in what was one of the most talked about performances at Sumfest.
Deewan sat down with Winford Williams to discuss the big performance, recording with Bounty Killer, his career and working with other reggae and pop artists including Lady Gaga.
“The song came about in Las Vegas,” Deewan said. “I wrote it when I was at a club out there with some friends. The first line of the song is “A bucket full of ice, three five hundred dollar bottles is just enough for five and a hand full of models.” And I had this idea in the club and then when I went back to the U.K. I built the demo and then my publisher sent it to Bounty Killer and then to Sly & Robbie and literally within two days it was done.”
