Tekashi 6ix9ine Eyes 10 Years Off Sentence As Feds Drop Crucial Charge

Tekashi 6ix9ine might be getting a lighter sentence based on what prosecutors are willing to dismiss.

Tekashi 6ix9ine is still involved in a high profile court trial that is set to wrap up on Wednesday. The rapper, who was previously said to be facing up to 47 years, might have 10 years removed from his full sentence. According to Page Six, prosecutors are indicating that they are willing to dismiss a firearms charge against the 23-year-old rapper.

Reports are that Federal prosecutor Michael Longyear announced that him and other prosecutors have agreed to drop the weapon count against Tekashi 6ix9ine for possession of a machine gun. The rapper who previously denied witness protection lobbied for a lighter sentence when he struck a plea deal with feds earlier this year.

More details surrounding his case and sentencing have been emerging in anticipation of his impending court date. “The Government will move to dismiss Count Two at sentencing,” Longyear reportedly wrote. “Thus …the defendant’s mandatory minimum term of incarceration would be 37 years’ imprisonment,” he added.

Per federal guidelines, Tekashi 6ix9ine, whose legal name is Daniel Hernandez, is facing a mandatory prison term. The rapper had previously been charged with racketeering, firearm possession, and multiple other charges. His cooperation with the feds during the trial and collaborative effort with prosecutors in building a case against the Nine Tr3y Bloods gang was covered extensively by the media and might have even cost him his rap career, but it has also allowed him the opportunity to see a reduced sentence.

Tekashi’s close friends and family have been writing to the presiding judge pleading on his behalf for a lighter sentence as well. All these efforts will soon be met with a decision when the rapper makes his court appearance on Wednesday, December 18, for his sentence hearing.
