Lizzo Drops “Good As Hell” Music Video Amidst New Backlash

Lizzo knows she’s a star who can touch the sky, and her latest music video proves it!

In a short time, the “Juice” singer has become our role model for embracing our bodies and loving ourselves for who we are. Although Lizzo recorded “Good As Hell” in 2016, the song — like its artist — came into its own this year and peaked at number three on the Billboard 100. It will now have a chance to rack up some YouTube records at the official music video dropped earlier today.

Set during Homecoming Week at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, we see Lizzo being the queen she is as she sings and dances while band students perform on their trumpets and saxophones. We also see how the cheerleaders get ready for their big game, and the Grammy nominee breaks out her best moves on a bud that has her name on it, with a bag of Cheetos included. All that and a bag of chips, baby!

The positivity of the song’s lyrics resonate throughout the campus as girls in the marching band, and cheerleading squad all respond the Lizzo singing, “I do my hair toss / Check my nails / Baby, how you feelin’? /Feelin’ good as hell.”

The music video also has sentimental meaning to Melissa Jefferson, as her birth certificate states. Back in Texas, she was a member of the marching band.

“I was in marching band from eighth grade all the way up until college — the Cougar marching band at University of Houston,” Lizzo revealed to NPR in 2016. “I was a piccolo player. I was the baddest piccolo in the land, ’cause I got big lungs. And I was really determined. I rented the flute, and I just started listening to James Galway and songs on the radio, really trying to sound good and be the best.”

Lizzo also showed off her twerking skills in the clip that comes in at almost 4 minutes — something she replicated last night at the Lakers game. When the Laker Girls began dancing to her song “Juice,” Lizzo joined in, with the moment being captured on the Jumbotron.

Lizzo is also getting some backlash on social media for an outfit that she wears to a Lakers NBA game this week.

“If she’s shinin’, everybody gonna shine.”
