Shaggy Put Hospital Drama Behind Him, In Antigua Shooting Marketing Ad

Shaggy has moved on from the Bustamante Children’s Hospital hullabaloo in Jamaica and is now in Antigua and Barbuda, filming a new Virgin Holidays destination marketing piece focused on the twin-island.

Shaggy arrived in the country yesterday, where he met up with Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez, who was at the Sir VC Bird International Airport to officially welcome the Jamaican superstar and personally thank him for his upcoming role as brand ambassador for the twin-island tourist destination.

The Tourism Minister told the media that that Shaggy’s prowess as an entertainer and his ability to cross all genres of music means that he has mass appeal globally.

“We’re really honored and privileged to be able to host him here in Antigua and Barbuda, and I believe this will definitely do great things for our product!” Fernandez stated.

The two-time Grammy Award winner’s itinerary for the next few days includes, among other things, shooting scenes at iconic tourist attractions which were chosen by Virgin Atlantic’s reconnaissance team, ahead of his arrival.

November is proving to be a very busy month for the 51-year-old US Army Veteran. On Wednesday November 5, he played the role of Sebastian the Crab, alongside Queen Latifah who was been billed as Ursula and Aulii Cravo as Ariel, in the live concert production of The Little Mermaid, which was aired on ABC, as part of the Wonderful World of Disney franchise honoring the 30th anniversary of the Little Mermaid.

Last week the dancehall megastar, whose real name is Orville Burrell, was among several U.S. Marine Gulf War Veterans who were recognized for their service and support for fellow veterans at the Boston Veterans Day Dinner, which was held at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.

Shaggy, who was born in Kingston, migrated to the United States at the age of 18 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1988. He served as a Field Artillery Cannon Crewman within the Field Artillery Battery in the 10th Marine Regiment during the Persian Gulf War, before retiring and starting his music career.
