Summer Walker’s ‘Over It’ Breaks Beyonce’s Record For Biggest Streaming Week

Summer Walker’s debut album has put her classified with the likes of Beyonce.

Summer Walker released her debut album Over It on Oct. 4 to critical acclaim, even earning the R&B star the stamp of approval from major artists like Drake. The project had the internet buzzing and was so well received that it took the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 charts in its first week. When it comes to women in R&B, there are only a select few artists that have had huge success in the last few years. Summer can now add her name to the list after Over It had the biggest week for a female R&B album since Beyonce’s Lemonade, making it the largest success in over three years.

The project that includes features from major names like Usher, Bryson Tiller, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Jhene Aiko, 6Lack and more, sold 134,000 equivalent album units, and topped the R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart. While Lemonade reached 202,000 album sales in its third week, Over It racked in the most on-demand audio streams ever for female R&B. Summer had the second-largest streaming week for an R&B album across the board, followed by The Weeknd’s Starboy, according to Billboard.

Summer celebrated her big debut and posted her accolades to Instagram Sunday with a heartfelt caption. “wow..just found out Over It is the biggest debut album from a female r&b artist in over 10 years and had the biggest streaming week for a female r&b artist ever,” the Atlanta native wrote. “thank y’all so so much for the love & support y’all got us breaking records and sh*t!!!” She also went on to thank her label Interscope Records, and her boyfriend London on da Track, who executive produced the project.

Over It even drew Drake – who hopped on Summer’s “Girls Need Love” remix earlier this year – to the singer’s DM’s to tell her how much he was fond of the project. “U snapped,” the Candian icon wrote. “Just made me write two songs it’s 7:30 am here… Album crazy.”

Congratulations to Summer Walker on her huge record breaking debut!
