Mavado is pleading with thieves to return his rare Nike custom sneaker.

Dancehall artiste Mavado, aka “The Gully God,” is pleading for the return of a personal item that was stolen from his possession. The artiste is claiming that a pair of Nike sneakers were stolen from him and that he would like the culprit to return it.

The dancehall singjay made the plea on Instagram on September 28, 2019; writing, “Someone stole my shoes and I want it back ok this shoes here is a part of history it was when Nike first recognized Dancehall music and how great I am so I want it back. @asafasub10king #flammablesundays.”

The shoes were presented to Mavado following his collaboration with Nike to celebrate Track and Field star Asafa Powell’s (@asafasub10king) record run of 9.77 in 2008. Mavado made sure to mention the track start in his Instagram post. According to Mavado, the shoes have historical significance to his career and dancehall music. Mavado described the pair of shoes as being apart of history and that it shows how great he is.

The stolen sneaker is a custom made Nike Airforce labeled with Mavado’s name en-crested in the map of Jamaica along with the words “Cassava Piece,” “Cuba,” and the artiste popular phase, “Gangsta for life.” The shoes are dominantly orange in color with pink highlights and a black signature Nike logo.

The Gully God’s post seemed to have sparked responses from many Vybz Kartel fans who claimed that Mavado was only seeking attention. One fan wrote: “The man a try everything inna the books fi get a forward black inna the biz smh,” while others make jokes surrounding Vybz Kartels incarceration.

Instagram user @gregorybrnes wrote: “A Lizard dead now.”

Mavado and Vybz Kartel have long had a heated rivalry, and even had one of the most famous lyrical showdowns in dancehall history, at Sting 2008.
