Nicki Minaj & Cardi B Toast Lizzo After “Truth Hurts” Hits No. 1 On Billboard Hot 100

Nicki Minaj and Cardi B gave Lizzo some major strength after her hit single “Truth Hurts” hit number one on Billboard Hot 100.

Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” is one hundred percent the Number one song in the country, and it is well deserved. The song hit number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, and the congratulations came pouring in. Nicki took to Twitter to show her support and to congratulate Lizzo on her achievement. She posted a tweet saying, “Congratulations @lizzo on going #1. You are so extremely multi-talented.”

This is huge of Nicki Minaj who is yet to receive a #1 song on the charts. It can also be said that credit can be given where it is due, as Nicki pretty much revived the Rap genre and made it what it is today. She definitely opened doors for a lot of female rappers and thus has allowed them to be recognized for their talents today. Soon after Lizzo responded saying, “THANK U, QUEEN” and reposted Nicki’s original tweet.

Unlike Nicki, Cardi B has already earned herself a Billboard Hot 100 number one song so she is a bit of an OG. She expressed how she got emotional after getting the news. “The fact that Lizzo a couple months ago felt underestimated and now she have a #1!!!!BITCH! take that!take that ! Makes me emotional It’s the best feeling in the world,” Cardi B tweeted.

Lizzo joins the likes of joins Beyoncé, Rihanna, Janelle Monáe and Cardi B as the only black women to hit #1 on the Hot 100, this decade. She is also the first black woman this year to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Cardi was one of the first persons to congratulate the singer. She tweeted, The fact that Lizzo a couple months ago felt underestimated and now she have a #1!!!!BITCH! take that!take that ! Makes me emotional It’s the best feeling in the world.

Originally released in 2017, “Truth Hurts” is finally being recognized for the greatness that it is. Back in April, during Coachella’s second weekend, a few minutes before she finished her performance, Lizzo had a message to get off her chest. She said, “As a big black woman in the industry I don’t see many women like me on the Billboard charts or at the Grammys or playing Coachella,” she said, flute in hand, tears welling in the corners of her eyes. Now, five months later, she shines at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Lizzo has been reaping the rewards of her patience, dedication, and passion as her sold-out tour is currently moving across the States on its second leg. She has also been performing her butt off at award shows like the BET Awards, where she performed “Truth Hurts” as an abandoned bride. She also recently performed at the VMAs, where she was backed by an inflatable derriere and a team of dancers. She goes all out for each performance, singing, rapping, and playing the flute.

After earning the top spot she tweeted this, “WE’RE NUMBER 1. THIS IS A W FOR ALL OF US. ANYBODY WHO EVER FELT LIKE THEY VOICE WASN’T HEARD. ANYBODY WHO FELT LIKE THEY WEREN’T GOOD ENOUGH. YOU ARE. WE ARE. CHAMPIONS. I LOVE YALL 3 MUCH. LIZZBIANS UNITE”

Fans have been showing their love and support via Twitter and Instagram. “A year ago today, @lizzo had 60,000 followers on Twitter and 247k followers on Instagram. Today, she’s got the number one song in the country, 870,000 followers on Twitter, and 4.6 million followers on Instagram. And she’s just getting started!” one Twitter user noted.

Back in 2017, she tweeted, “Okay… sorry if you follow me. But imma promote Truth Hurts all day cus it’s the best video I’ve ever made & I’m proud of it”. Today she tweeted, “…AND I STILL AM”. I’m sure fans and celebs alike, everywhere are proud of it too.
