Nicki Minaj Sounds Off On Past ‘Toxic Relationships’ Serves Baewatch Goals

Nicki Minaj wants women to feel empowered enough to leave bad relationships.

Queen of Rap Nicki Minaj went on a Twitter rant Sunday where she opened up about hardships from her past relationships and how they contrast with her current love life with Kenneth Petty. The “Pink Friday” MC started her social media speech encouraging her fans to uplift women that are in bad relationships instead of passing judgment on their situations.

“When u see a woman in a toxic relationship, rather than laugh & say mean things, try to offer sound advice from your heart & root for her to learn her worth,” she wrote. “We’ve all been there. I saw my parents fight & argue non stop & never divorce, so I thought this was normal behavior…”

She then went on to list signs to look for that may indicate that a relationship may be more negative than positive.

“A man who loves you does not: 1. Humiliate you on social media 2. Beat you 3. Cheat on you 4. Call you out of your name/put you down to lower your self esteem due to his own insecurities. 5. Hide his phone, passwords, where abouts, etc.”

It’s no secret that Onika has experience in rocky relationships after she publicly dated and broke up with rapper Meek Mill, and Love and Hip Hop star Safaree. Both relationships ended on bad notes, and Nicki exchanged some ugly shots with both men post-breakup. The 36-year-old went on to explain why it was tough to walk away from those relationships at the time.

“I rlly used to think love had to hurt. So I could never look down on anyone else. We are merely human. It’s not easy to leave,” she continued. “Especially in the world of IG where all ppl want to do is post relationship goal pics for clout & attention. A man should make you feel safe, not afraid.”

The megastar’s new boo Kenneth Petty has apparently shown her how she should be treated as she has hinted at the two have plans to marry. She even changed her name to “Mrs. Petty” on Twitter.

“I remember being so afraid to speak cuz I never knew when that person would be in a particular mood and I could maybe say one wrong thing that would get me hit. So the diff you see in me now is that feeling when a woman feels lifted up, safe, appreciated & unconditionally loved.” The comment alarmed fans who never had an inkling that the star had been in a physically abusive relationship in the past, but it was unclear what ex-boyfriend she was referring to.

All in all, the icon said she had to learn to love herself first to attract the type of love she deserved.

“.. if you wouldn’t let a man treat your mother, your sister or best friend like that b/c you LOVE them, then you wouldn’t let a man treat YOU like that b/c you love YOU. This isn’t about judging. We judge too much. Lift them up.”
