Woodstock 50 Canceled After Jay-Z, Miley Cyrus Pulled Out, Promoters Blamed ‘Setbacks’

The legendary Woodstock festival was supposed to celebrate its 50th anniversary this year, but unfortunately that won’t happen.

Founders of Woodstock 50 announced Wednesday, a little over two weeks before the historical festival was to kick off, that the event was canceled due to “unforeseen setbacks” after weeks of bad press, according to CNN. Rumors began to swirl back in April that they show may not go on when a major marketing firm that was financing the festival pulled out.

Last week it was reported that hip hop mogul Jay-Z decided to drop out as a headliner, which we now know was an indicator that something just wasn’t right. If anybody can spot some messy business going on, it’s Hov.

“We are saddened that a series of unforeseen setbacks has made it impossible to put on the Festival we imagined with the great line-up we had booked and the social engagement we were anticipating,” said Michael Lang, co-founder of the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival.

Last month the venue for Woodstock 50 changed at the last minute, and the festival was moved from Watkins Glen International in New York to Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland.

Pop-country singer Miley Cyrus reportedly pulled out of the show a day before it was announced that Woodstock 50 was canceled, according to Variety.

The original lineup featured many big names including artists like Chance the Rapper, Halsey, Imagine Dragons, Common and Vince Staples. Woodstock 50 was scheduled to go from August 16-18.
