Jermaine Dupri is not a fan of the current batch of female rappers.
The veteran rapper/producer is calling on the new crop of female MCs to come with some original content because they all sound the same. Jermaine Dupri sat down for an interview with People where he opened up about a bunch of topics including what he thinks about the new wave of female rappers which includes Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Bhad Bhabie and more.
There is no doubt that this is a good period for female rap, but Dupri isn’t feeling the female rap content that’s coming out now.
“I can’t really say, and you know the reason why I can’t say is because I feel like they’re all rapping about the same thing,” the producer said. “I don’t think that they’re showing us who is the best rapper… for me it’s like strippers rapping. And as far as rap goes, I am not getting who is the best rapper.”
A lot of hip hop fans are pushing back at Jermaine Dupri’s statement saying that the males in the industry are also rapping about the same things, money, cloth, cars, jewelry, etc. Not all fans see it that way on the male side of hip hop.
“To everyone saying all males are rapping about the same…LIES. There’s a difference between Gucci, Migos, Drake and Wale, Kendrick and J. Cole! The problem is that the female artist that aren’t rapping about money, bags, Robbin, twerking and weaves get no shine!!! They’re so far under the radar that they’re unseen,” one person wrote.
