Rihanna Sends Cricket Fans Into A Frenzy At West Indies World Cup Match

There is bound to be renewed interest in West Indies cricket and Windies paraphernalia as a fashion choice, after Rihanna posted on Monday, on Instagram, a photo of herself, sporting a Windies cap.

“Reppin Barbados and the whole West Indies,” the world’s richest female musician captioned the photo. Windies fans, especially those from Barbados, were in ecstasy. The post racked up more than 3.6 million likes and approximately 30,000 comments, among them one from the official West Indies Instagram which read: “WI love it!!! Thanks for coming”

Earlier in the day, on Monday, the Barbadian superstar was posted on several sporting sites, while she was in England’s Chester Le Street Riverside Sports Pavilion, where she came out in support of the West Indies in their World Cup match against Sri Lanka. The entertainer who donned full white clothing and sported waist-length braids was seen taking photos, waving the West Indies flag and applauding the players throughout the game.

Videos of the 31-year-old were also posted of her meeting the “Universe Boss” Chris Gayle and other cricketers in the squad’s dressing room, where they chatted, took photographs and autographed a cricket bat for her.

The world governing body for cricket, the International Cricket Council was elated at the presence of the megastar and bragged about it on their Facebook page.

“Yas Queen! This is what you came for Rihanna!” the ICC captioned a photograph of the artiste cheering on her the Windies with her right fist in the air, in a post that attracted more than 156,000 likes.

Rihanna was again featured in another ICC post holding up the Windies flag, in a photo captioned: “look who’s at Sri Lanka v West Indies to rally ’round the West Indies! Watch out for Rihanna’s new single “Shut up and Cover Drive.”

That post attracted its fair share of naughty comments.

“After watching her, Gayle got out. Gosh, he was in a hurry,” Md. Ashraful wrote while James Allen penned: “Not even she could help the team today, swear.”

“Why ICC page following Rihanna…you like that lady,” Yelani Nishika posted in his mockery of the agency.
