Buju Banton gave the new wave of dancehall artists from Mobay a major endorsement.

The Gargamel is easing back into the dancehall spotlight following his hugely successful first post-prison concert in Jamaica last month. The Grammy-winning reggae star drew a massive crowd of over 30,000 fans to the National Stadium in Kingston in March for his inaugural Long Walk To Freedom tour. Earlier this week, Buju Banton was spotted partying at Weddy Weddy Wednesdays where the legendary Stone Love was playing. He jumped on the mic for a freestyle.

Before Buju gets into the freestyle, he shoutout the artists from Montego Bay who are creating waves in Jamaica’s popular music scene. “You see the youth them from Mobay, mi nuh really know them but me love them,” Gargamel said. “We no kill champion we raise champion, and if unu big up Mobay unu fi big up town.”

Buju Banton also calls for unity among artists from Montego Bay and Kingston, rather than fighting against each other. “We no wan hear say is a Mobay against Kingston thing because that a f***ery, a one Jamaica and a that we a promote,” he continues. Buju then launched into a fire freestyle as the crowd at Weddy Weddy went wild.

Among the new wave of deejays from Mobay includes Ryging King, Squash, and Teejay. Tommy Lee Sparta, who is also hailed from the second city, made a name for himself for the past several years. Weddy Weddy Wednesdays is an iconic weekly party in Kingston dated back decades.
