Popcaan Officially Joins Drake’s OVO Sound Label

Drake and Popcaan Forever

Popcaan is officially an OVO artist.

Back in December, Drake made a surprise appearance at Popcaan’s Unruly Fest in St. Thomas where he announced that the dancehall star would become an OVO artist in 2019. Since then, we haven’t heard anything pertaining to the potential deal until now. The Unruly was recently in Toronto where he dropped some hints that he has officially signed a deal with OVO. Sources close to the dancehall deejay told Urban Islandz on Thursday that he is officially on the OVO Roster.

“Popcaan is an OVO artist, I can’t speak on the deal, but I can confirm that he is on the label,” sources told us.

The current crop of artists on the label includes Drake, PARTYNEXTDOOR, Majid Jordan, OB O’Brien, Roy Woods, dvsn, and Popcaan as the only reggae/dancehall artist.

Popcaan and Drake have been close friends for years, and both artists have tattoos paying homage to their respective camp. The Young Money rapper co-founded OVO Sound in 2012 with his close friends Noah “40” Shebib and Oliver El-Khatib.

The Unruly Boss is currently working on a new project which could be his first release on the label. He has a handful of new singles that he released this year that are doing very well on the airwaves. This new deal with OVO will mean more international exposure for Popcaan and his Unruly brand of dancehall music.
