Lil Wayne has broken his silence on why Drake was nowhere to be found on Tha Carter V.
Lil Wayne released his new album Tha Carter V last Friday around a lot of fanfare, but some folks weren’t so happy when they learned that Drake wasn’t featured on the project despite being the top-selling Young Money rapper. Drizzy has been killing the game for the past two-three years consistently topping the charts and breaking records. So a lot of Young Money fans were feeling salty why Tunechi would leave him off the project and include in Nicki Minaj.
During his recent sit down with Elliott Wilson’s CRWN on Tidal, Lil Wayne said it was some “clearance issues” why Drake wasn’t on the album. “He has a song that didn’t get cleared,” Weezy said. “The clearances man. People be trippin’ when they find out who it is and when they find out what the song’s subject is about. They don’t represent the names of something like that.”
While Lil Wayne didn’t elaborate too much on why Drake and his people didn’t clear the song, he did hint that the lyrics were raunchy, but alluded that you never truly know why some artists don’t clear songs. It could also mean that they were trying to sample a song from another artist and couldn’t get clearance for that, because I strongly doubt that Drake himself would not clear a collaboration with Lil Wayne.
Earlier this week, some rumors surfaced that Drake and Post Malone should’ve been featured on the song “What About Me” which is featured on the final cut of the album Tha Carter V. The version that is now available on the album features an artist name Sosamann. Nevertheless, it seems like clearance is the big issue why Drake was not on Tha Carter V.
