Dalton Harris took X Factor UK by storm.

From Digicel Rising Stars to the X Factor, Jamaican singer Dalton Harris has made it to the big stage. The young singer auditioned for the X Factor UK last week in what turned out to be an emotional and well-received rendition of Elton John’s classic “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word.” Harris broke down in tears after seeing the overwhelming response from the audience and the judges. At one point, judge Louis Tomlinson and his wife, Ayda Field, had to console Harris.

As for the reason why he chose to sing a pop song, Dalton Harris said he wanted to establish himself as a vocalist. “I wanted to present myself as a vocalist, so I decided I would not do a reggae song,” Harris said. “That would have been too easy. I believe I would also be limiting myself — Jamaican singing reggae is such a stereotype. I didn’t want to use my culture as a gimmick, but rather put myself out there in an organic way so I can earn respect as a vocalist.”

Nevertheless, Harris says his crying is not a sign of weakness, the moment was just overwhelming. He added that it was more of an emotional moment to see his triumph and to earn the respect of the judges. The X Factor creator and producer, Simon Cowell praise the Jamaican singer.
