JAY-Z Reacts To Meek Mill Release From Prison

JAY-Z has shared his reaction to Meek Mill release from prison on Tuesday.

The Philly rapper walked free from a Pennsylvania prison on Tuesday afternoon after spending five months of his 4 years sentence for probation violation. The five months seems like five years because Meek Mill has been fighting for his freedom since a judge handed down the heavy-handed sentencing in November last year. On Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that the rapper should be granted bail.

The Philly rapper is currently at the 76ers game and even rang the ceremonial bell before the start of the game. JAY-Z was one of his biggest supporters throughout his prison stint and even penned an op-ed in the New Times about the racial biases of the criminal justice system.

“Today, Meek Mill, a son of Philadelphia, is a free man,” JAY-Z wrote in a statement on Facebook. “He was incarcerated unjustly and caught in a probation trap for years by a broken system. Now we can celebrate his release. We thank every individual that has supported and fought alongside Meek every step of the way.”

Roc Nation, who manages Meek Mill, also released a statement confirming his freedom. “We are pleased with the Supreme Court’s decision to grant Meek Mill bail and allow him to return home to his loved ones,” the statement reads. “We are grateful for all the support that Meek has received from his fans and public advocates over the past five months and look forward to working alongside Meek to fight for criminal justice reform.”
