Meek Mill’s Conviction Could Be Reverse D.A. Files New Docs

Meek Mill could be getting out of jail sooner than later.

The Philly rapper’s attorneys are actively fighting for his release from prison on the grounds that his original arresting officer is a known corrupt police officer in Philadelphia. The District Attorney’s Office has filed new legal documents basically saying that they are not opposed to the rapper getting release due to the corrupt officer. In fact, there is a strong possibility that his conviction could be totally reversed.

Prosecutors have already identified hundreds of other convictions that are already overturned because they are linked to said corrupt police officer. Meek Mill’s attorney has filed several different motions over the past couple of weeks and one of these motions is for him to be released on bail while the courts decide whether or not to overturn his conviction.

The MMG rapper is currently serving 2-4 years in a Pennsylvania prison for probation violation. The probation he violated stemmed from his original weapons and drugs conviction from 2008. This means that Meek Mill could be out of prison in a matter of days or even weeks at most. The announcement from the District Attorney’s Office comes a day after Meek’s mother pleaded for his son to be showed leniency and be freed from behind bars.

“I’m begging the DA Krasner,” Meek’s mom, Kathy Williams, tearfully said in a press conference, the Philly Inquirer reported. She also chastised Common Pleas Court Judge Genece E. Brinkley for her heavy-handed sentence back in November that sent her son to prison for up to 4 years for violating his parole.

“I don’t even understand how he’s been on probation for that many years. It’s like he murdered somebody,” Kathy Williams added while flanked by Meek’s lead attorney Joe Tacopina. “He has to beg to see his son. What kind of woman does that? Is she a mother? Do she have a mother?”

Meek Mill, whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, was just 19 years old when he was arrested and charged with gun and drugs possession. He is now 30 and is still dealing with legal troubles stemming from that arrest.

Throughout the ordeal, Meek has remained positive saying that he wants to be the light that shines on a broken justice system that has been failing young African American men for decades. Civil Rights Activist Rev. Al Sharpton was also in Philly yesterday for the press conference that was largely about Meek’s case and the injustice others are facing in the criminal justice system.
