Cardi B Wins Best New Artist At 2017 BET Hip Hip Awards

Cardi B won the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards for Best New Artist.

The “Bodak Yellow” rapper has been having a great year and is currently sitting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the last two weeks. The former Love and Hip Hop New York stat attended the award ceremony at the Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami with her boyfriend Offset from rap group Migos. During her acceptance speech, she thanked her fans, her family, her label Atlantic and Offset for supporting her.

Cardi B got a taste of hip hop history last month when she became the first female since Lauryn Hill to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart with a solo single. “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)” has been one of the hottest rap songs on the planet this year and Cardi B is already under pressure to prove that she is not a one hit wonder. Rap fans are already weighing in on her BET Hip Hop Awards win and they are divided. Of course you have the usual critics and then you have some who are loyal supporters, but what are those in the middle saying?

“Why is everybody on Cardi B’s nuts?” one fan wrote. “One song and she’s the best new artist? LOL. Everyone’s so happy for her just cus she’s a female. I’ve never heard any new male artist get the love she’s gotten.”

“I agree she didn’t deserve it but everybody is naming all these “rappers” that should have won but they’re just as garbage as she is so it really doesn’t matter,” another said.

Earlier this week, Cardi B teases a new single on her IG account and it sounds like it’s a worthy follow-up to “Bodak Yellow.” “Used to dance in the club right across from my school / I said dance, not f***, don’t get it confused / Had to set the record straight, ’cause b*tches love to assume,” she raps.
