Kevin Gates Thanks Fans For Support Drops “What If” Video

Kevin Gates gave his fans a big shout-out on Instagram yesterday and drop the video for “What If.”

The Baton Rouge rapper is currently serving a 30-month prison sentence for a gun charge. Around the time of his sentencing in April, he released some new music including this single “What If” and now we have a visual. The conscious single samples Joan Osborne’s “One of Us” and the symbolic clip features footage of Gates in prison and clips of distress youths in a portrayal for whats going on right now in the society.

To coincide with the release of the video, Kevin Gates posted a message for his fans on his Instagram account. “In the name of the most gracious most merciful,” he wrote. “Dear Loyal Family. Disallow yourselves to be troubled in my time of absence. All of the great ones who came before and will come after me: Have had to go through this. By this I’m speaking in reference to hardship. A great a person is measured by all of the great test they can undergo and still remain true to who they are. With that being said I’m him. I love you all. In closing I remain the same.”

Despite being in jail for some time now, Kevin Gates manages to remain relevant thanks to some new music released by his label. He is currently working on his new mixtape “By Any Means 2” dropping on September 21st. That project will be the followup to the first installment in the series released in 2015
