“The Race” Rapper Tay-K On Trial For Murder And Has Hottest Song Out

Teenage rap sensation Tay-K is on trial for murder as an adult and he has one of the hottest rap songs out “The Race.”

The controversial 17-year-old rapper, whose real name is Taymor McIntyre, is currently in jail and is charged with capital murder. On Wednesday, he was in court for a hearing and a judge ruled that he will be tried as an adult. His trial has been delayed reportedly due to lack of enough evidence and his lawyer, James McMillan, says that he is confident that his client will be exonerated.

Tay-K got into some legal trouble last year when 21-year-old Ethan Walker was killed during a home invasion in Mansfield, Texas. The young rapper was arrested and charged with the murder and was placed on house arrest, but he later cut loose his ankle monitor and went on the run, thus becoming a fugitive. As if that wasn’t enough, while on the run he became a suspect in another murder case and as well as an assault case involving a 65-year-old man. He was captured on June 30th in Elizabeth, New Jersey.

McMillan released a statement to The New York Times reporter Joe Coscarelli who posted it on Twitter. “We just concluded the ‘certification transfer’ hearing for Mr. McIntyre,” the statement reads. “The judge has ruled that his case should [be] moved to the adult court based on his age (and the fact that the juvenile court will lack jurisdiction soon). The judge was very clear to tell Mr. McIntyre on the record that this decision has no bearing whatsoever of his guilt/ innocence in this case. After a full day hearing with numerous officers testifying under oath, officers testified there was no evidence that Mr. McIntyre engaged in any of the violent [acts] or possessed any weapons. Mr McIntyre remains upbeat after this hearing. I believe once all of the evidence is presented, Mr. McIntyre will be exonerated on all of the charges. We look forward to moving ahead.”

Following his most recent incarceration, his single “The Race” was released online and almost overnight became a viral hit. The single peaked at number 48 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this summer and could climb higher.
