J. Cole’s Dreamville Records Signs Rap Group EarthGang

J. Cole‘s imprint Dreamville Records signs rap group EarthGang.

Talks of the signing have been floating around for a few months now, but now both J. Cole and the rap duo have confirmed that signatures are now on paper and the signing is now official. EarthGang is a rap duo based in Atlanta comprising of Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot. The first person the hint at the signing is DJ Drama who somehow let it slip out his mouth a few months ago.

EarthGang has already announced their new Rags EP and this cosigns from one of the dopest rappers in the game J. Cole will only boost their profile. In a video posted online, you can see the Roc Nation rapper praising Johnny Venus and Doctur Dot. “When n***as think about Atlanta, they think about super trap sh*t,” he said. “They think about, ya know, Future…Future is the God right now in that world and that lane. But it’s like, them kids you seen at that show tonight…they actually relate more to ya’ll.” Cole also promised the duo that he will make himself available to them right along their journey.

It’s good to see J. Cole expanding his own Dreamville brand and building his own stable of artists and if he can recognize the talent of these two rappers just like JAY-Z recognized his, then that can only be good for hip hop and good for these aspiring emcees. EarthGang will be releasing their new Rage EP on September 1st. The duo will then embark on a tour this fall and will likely begin work on their debut album. J. Cole is also working on his next album and was recently spotted in the studio with Dr. Dre. No word yet on when his next project will arrive but you can expect an announcement from his camp soon.
