Kanye West Terminates TIDAL Contract Amidst JAY-Z Fallout

Kanye West is furious with TIDAL and JAY-Z. The G.O.O.D. Music chief is parting ways with the music streaming service amidst his fallout with Hov.

JAY-Z released his new album 4:44 on Friday where he took a few shots at Kanye West. Seems Ye took it to heart and now he doesn’t want anything to do with Hov and TIDAL. Sources say Kanye has been having issues with TIDAL long before JAY-Z drop 4:44. Things between Kanye and TIDAL started going south when Ye dropped his last album The Life of Pablo exclusively on the platform and that brought 1.5 million new subscribers to TIDAL.

According to TMZ, Kanye West claims that TIDAL owes him a $3 million bonus that he was promised for bringing in the 1.5 million new subscribers. Ye said that he never got paid his bonus and also never got paid for some exclusive music videos he was asked to release on the platform. The “College Dropout” rapper fired off a letter telling TIDAL that the contract is void and he wants out of their deal. Attorneys representing both sides tried to hash things out but were unable to reach an agreement and now both sides are threatening to sue.

It won’t be that easy for Kanye West to completely cut ties with JAY-Z since he is also signed to Roc Nation. The G.O.O.D Music head is also part owner of TIDAL along with a bunch of other artists. Certainly, he can get out of his deal with Roc Nation, but cutting ties with TIDAL won’t happen overnight. Kanye famously released his album The Life of Pablo exclusively on TIDAL prompting a lot of his fans to subscribe to the music streaming service. A few weeks before the album drop, he announced on Twitter that the project will never be available on Apple Music and Spotify. A couple weeks after it was released he made the album available on those platforms leaving some betrayed and thus threatened to sue.
