The Weeknd is expanding his charitable reach in Africa by donating $100,000 to a children’s medical facility in Uganda.
The “Starboy” singer used a $100,000 of his own money and donated it to the Suubi Health Center, a maternity and children’s hospital located in Budondo, Uganda. The Canadian singer is of Ethiopian descent and often make donations to the African continent. He was motivated to help the hospital because of Moroccan rapper French Montana who previously helped raised awareness for the facility through the Global Citizenship organizations, E! News reported.
Earlier this year, French Montana shared his #Unforgettable Dance video which went viral on social media. He made the video during a visit to Uganda where he famously said that the kids in the East African country are better dancers than the likes of Chris Brown. During his visit, he met with the founders of the Suubi Center and was so moved by the work that they are doing that he donated $100,000 of his own money.
French Montana has since challenged more of his celebrity peers to make donations to help pay for equipment, ambulance, and a blood bank. The Weeknd is the only other musician so far to donate money to the medical facility.
