Young M.A. made a name for herself as the first openly lesbian rapper and last year she had one of the biggest singles of the year “OOOUUU.”
In a rare interview with Hot 97 radio show Ebro in the Morning, the New York rapper opened up about meeting fellow NY rap legend Jay Z, dating model/DJ Tori Brixx, and the state of the New York rap scene. Despite being openly gay, Young M.A. says that she is not trying to be an advocate of any kind, but want to inspire others through her music and simply being herself. “There’s definitely pressure,” the rapper said. “I am a human being so that’s what it is. At the same time you have to put yourself back in that zone that you were in before. In a creative zone instead of thinking ok maybe I need to do this.”
In the 30-minute interview, Young M.A. also opened up about meeting Jay Z while opening for Beyonce on her Formation tour. “I met Jay Z,” she said. “I didn’t get to see her [Beyonce]. She was prolly in her dressing room getting pretty. You don’t just get to the meet the queen. [The invite] was good enough.” She also added that meeting Hov was a humbling experience.
