Drake’s “More Life” Breaks Apple Music & Spotify Records

Drake is well on his way to having the biggest album of 2017 with More Life which broke both Apple Music and Spotify streaming records.

More Life is still the most streamed album this week on the planet and the most talked about project on social media. In the first 24 hours, the playlist rocked up 89.9 million streams globally on Apple Music and thus breaking the single day streaming record on the platform. With that momentum, the project could go on the break the week streaming record on Apple Music.

In comparison, More Life was streamed 61.3 million times on Spotify on the first day of release and was streamed 76.3 million times on the second day on Sunday. That broke the single day streaming record on Spotify. Despite his deal with Apple Music, Drake made the album available on all platforms last weekend and thus increasing his first-week album sales tally which could reach as much as a million copies in the first seven days.

In 2015 and 2016, Drake was the most streamed artist on Spotify and this year will likely be no different. The Toronto rapper’s 2016 project Views was also the most streamed album on both Spotify and Apple Music. In fact, the LP was the first album to reach one billion streams on Apple Music and More Life is on track to reach that level of success.

Saturday night episode of OVOSound Radio was also the biggest show on Beats 1 since its inception and that largely has to do with More Life debuting on the radio program. The opening single on the album “Free Smoke” is the most streamed song on the album with “Portland” and “Passionfruit” being second and third most streamed respectively. Nevertheless, the album has been getting rave reviews among hip hop fans worldwide and will continue to break more records going forward.
