Beyonce Sued by Messy Mya For “Formation” Unauthorized Sample

Beyonce is not feeling good right now after news of a new lawsuit against her spread following her pregnancy announcement a week ago.

The estate of late New Orleans rapper Messy Mya is suing the pop star for an unauthorized sample used on her mega hit single “Formation.” TMZ reported that Beyonce used a small piece of line from a 2010 video “A 27 Piece Huh?” The phrase at the heart of the lawsuit is “I like that.”

Messy Mya, whose real name is Anthony Barré, is a YouTube star who was shot and killed in New Orleans in 2010. Barré estate says that they contacted Beyonce about the sampling but was blown off. The estate is seeking more than $20,000,000 in royalty and damages, claiming that Queen Bey ripped off the late rapper’s work.

“Formation” was one of the biggest singles last year and is featured on Beyonce’s platinum-selling album Lemonade. The single was also certified gold by the RIAA, meaning it has sold more than 500,000 copies.
