Reggae Month Kicks Off With Mandela Park Concert Featuring Chris Martin

Reggae month is already in full gear. February is not only Black History Month, but also the month we celebrates reggae music.

On Wednesday night several big names in reggae music take the stage at Emancipation Park in Kingston for a free concert including Christopher Martin, Marla Brown, Freddie McGregor, Richie Stephens, Ken Boothe, George Nooks, Warrior King among others.

“Inside, it is very beautiful. The acoustics are good,” Coleen Douglas, marketing/public relations coordinator for Reggae Month, said. “After Capleton’s show last year, we know it can handle a good crowd.”

The 2017 Reggae Month celebration is already packed with activities including a sound system performance, a discussion forum, and a Sunday series on mento. The celebrations are organized by Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA).

Last year’s celebration saw big performances from the likes of Capleton who drew thousands of fans to the venue.
