Spice Cops IRAWMA Award But Disappointed Hurricane Forced Her To Cancel Performance

Spice is not too happy that she cancelled her appearance at the annual International Reggae and World Music Awards, IRAWMA, held in Fort Lauderdale last weekend.

Despite missing the show, Spice won an award for Best Female Artist. Hurricane Matthew threatened Jamaica last weekend, forcing a number of events to either canceled or postponed.

Spice decision not to appear at IRAWMA was made by the preconceived notion that hurricane Matthew was indeed a threat to Jamaica. But in the end the storm inched away from the island and wrecked havoc in Haiti and Cuba. “I, myself, stayed home because of the hurricane,” Spice said. “I was supposed to go to the IRAWMA, and me kinda disappointed because I won the award for female dancehall artiste of the year, and I wasn’t there to collect it.”

Being a mother of two, the stage show boss also expressed her concerns about the safety of her children. “I had to stock up on things that they like,” she added. “I bought additional games, knowing they would be indoors. I am having a bit of mixed feelings right now. Whereas I am extremely happy that Matthew didn’t come to Jamaica, especially hearing what it is doing to Haiti right now, knowing it was a Category 4 hurricane, I am also extremely disappointed that we made so many preparations and it didn’t come.”

Spice is currently in South Florida where the storm is now heading so seems she can’t catch a break.
