Missy Elliott: Rap Legend To Be Honored AtVH1 Hip Hop Honors

Missy Elliott is a legend in her own right and VH1 Hip Hop Honors will be putting the stamp of approval on a title fitting for a hip hop icon.

The 2016 “Hip Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens” will be honoring Missy Elliot making her the second female rapper to be confirmed as an honoree. The event will will be broadcast live on Vh1 from New York on Monday July 11 at 9 PM EST.

Missy Elliott saw huge commercial success in the late 1990s and early 2000s and this garnered critical acclaim in the hip hop community along with close friends Timbaland and the late Aaliyah.

She has already released six platinum-selling albums and won five Grammy awards with over 30 million records sold in the United States alone. She is the only female rapper in history to have six consecutive platinum albums.

The Hip Hop Honors will be announcing additional honorees ahead of the show next month. The event took a break for six years but has now returned to give female artists their props for their contribution to hip hop music.

Missy Elliott is currently working on her new album due later this year. The single “WTF (Where They From)” featuring Pharrell Williams is the first track released off the album.
