Di Genius Talks Vybz Kartel Fallout And Taking Career Overseas

Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor is one of the most recognized producers in dancehall over the last decade or so. He produced several hit singles for the likes of Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Konshens, Bounty Killer, Beenie Man and more.

McGregor used to also be close friends with Vybz Kartel before his incarceration, but back in 2010 the two had a bitter fallout. The split lead to both of them releasing diss songs against each other.

For the first time, Di Genius is opening up about what lead to the split with the former Portmore Empire boss.

“We just kind of stop seeing eye to eye at one point and that eventually deteriorated,” the producer said while speaking with Marvin Sparks on his show No Long Talk. “Me and Kartel were brethrens so the business aspect of it was kind of nonsense.”

Despite the bitter fallout, Stephen McGregor says that he holds no grudge against Vybz Kartel. “Big up to Kartel same way that is years past and I hold no grudge where anything is concern,” he added.

Back in 2010 Di Genius released a single “Cya Friend Again” highlighting the feud between himself and the self proclaimed World Boss.

These days Stephen ‘Di Genius’ McGregor is busy working with several overseas artists. He recently did some production for Drake’s new landmark album Views which has been No. 1 on Billboard 200 album chart for four weeks straight.
