OMI Gets Billboard Music Awards Nomination For ‘Top New Artist’

Jamaican singing sensation OMI receives a nomination for “Top New Artist” at this year’s Billboard Music Awards.

The reggae pop star will go up against other new artists who saw huge success last year including Fetty Wap, Charlie Puth, Silentó, and Bryson Tiller.

In July of last year, OMI ended Jamaica’s drought at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart when his debut single “Cheerleader” took the top spot, overthrowing Wiz Khalifa andCharlie Puth’s “See You Again” which spent a total of 12 weeks at the top of the chart.

Billboard also named “Cheerleader” song of the summer after it spent six consecutive weeks at No. 1.

OMI has yet to replicate the same formula for another single and his debut album “Me 4 U” saw paltry sales.
