OMI Scores Song Of The Summer With “Cheerleader”

OMI has achieved something that no other Jamaican artists has done in a long time and that is scoring song of the summer for 2015 for his breakout single “Cheerleader.”

Billboard made the announcement on Tuesday that the Louder Than Life/Ultra/Columbia Records single top the annual chart after spending six weeks at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100.

“Every artist from Jamaica wants to thrive in the U.S.,” says OMI, whose real name is Omar Samuel Pasley. “There are so many great songs that deserve the recognition that ‘Cheerleader’ has had. I’m just grateful.”

OMI is gearing up to release his debut album Me 4 U on October 16 for Louder Than Life/Ultra/Columbia. He also recently released a new single “Hula Hoop” that has been getting good airplay.
