BET Cancels 106 & Park After 14 Years On Air

BET’s music countdown show 106 & Park got canceled after being on the air for 14 years.

This means that Bow Wow, aka Shad Moss, and Keshia Chanté will be out of a job. But there is still a chance to save the show that has been dwindling in ratings.

In a statement released by BET, the network says they will be moving 106 & Park to a all digital format on BET.com come December 19.

“It’s been a great 14 year run as America’s top music/variety show on cable,” Stephen Hill, BET’s President of Music Programming & Specials, said in a statement. “And now that very valuable brand is going to take its talents to the digital realm. The interactive brand you helped build, 106 & Park, is alive and well… and it’s moving to the space in which our audience NOW interacts with music the most; online.”

Hill has a point because most of us are consuming not only music but also other media format strictly online.

“It’ll be very exciting to connect with the millions of people that are already engaged with 106 & Park and other BET digital and social media entities and bring content that will further evolve the 106 & Park brand, and enhance the overall BET Networks brand. As we transition to the digital space, we look to continue 106 & Park’s role as both a leader of and a mirror to youth culture,” Hill added.

This means BET will be pushing 106 & Park on BET.com and on it’s various social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

The network also plans to produce a few 106 & Park specials throughout the year that will be aired on TV.

Over the last couple of months there have been mounting rumors that the show could get the boot after falling in ratings over the years. But now those rumors proved to be true.

BET launched 106 & Park in 2000 with hosts A.J. Calloway and Free. Since then the show have seen Rocsi Diaz and Terrence J taking on hosting duties before handing it over to Bow Wow and Keshia Chanté.

Is this the beginning of the end for 106 & Park?
