Vybz Kartel Trial: Attorneys And Judge Buck Heads Over Corrections

Justice Lennox Campbell continued his summation of the Vybz Kartel murder trial on Monday in the Home Circuit court in Kingston.

The judge is going over each peace of evidence and each witness presented by the prosecution. But today something unusual happened when Vybz Kartel’s lead attorney Tom Tavares-Finson asked the judge about a note given to him by the registrar.

Justice Lennox Campbell shot back asking the lawyer what note his he talking about.

“The notes were handed to you by the registrar maybe you can ask him,” Tavares-Finson said. “The registrar is right here, maybe your lordship could make the request.”

But the judge angrily said he will make no such request, but Tavares-Finson insisted that the notes contained important corrections to his summation.

“This is very unusual Mr Finson,” the presiding said. “I would have thought that after the judge’s summation he would ask the defence if there is anything left out?”

Attorney Susan Dodd, who is on Shawn Storm’s legal team intervened and told the judge that the notes contained correction regarding the sex of one of the witnesses.

But the judge jokingly said he rarely mixed up the sexes of people.

Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, Shawn “Storm” Campbell, Kahira Jones, André St John, and Shane Williams are all on trial for the alleged murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams.

The Crown says Williams, who is a former associate of the accused men, was killed on August 16, 2011 over two missing guns belonging to the dancehall star.

His body has yet to be found.

A verdict in the trial is expected by the middle of this week.
