Lou Reed, the hugely influencial rock legend from Velvet Underground, is dead.
The guitarist and songwriter, who is widely regarded as the pioneer of rock music, died on Sunday on Long Island.
His cause of death was not released, however, the rock icon underwent a liver transplant earlier this year.
Lou Reed is responsible for the success of Velvet Underground in the 1960s but later launched a hugely successful solo career.
His 1972 classic “Walk on the Wild Side” is the biggest commercial hit of his career.
Rolling Stone, who first reported Reeds death, ranked Velvet Underground’s debut album at No. 13 on their list of greatest albums of all time.
Lou Reed was 71 at the time of his death.
