Mavado Loses Appeal To Overturn Assault Conviction

Mavado’s assault conviction stands in the eyes of an appeal court judge.

The dancehall star was convicted in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court in May of 2012 on charges of assault and malicious destruction of property.

Mavado was sentenced to a fine of JM$100,000 or serve six month in jail.

The charges stemmed from an incident in 2011 involving an altercation with Mavado’s entourage and a man name Henry Cunningham and his son Oshane Cunningham. Both men were severely injured in the altercation and their motor vehicle damaged.

Mavado filed an appeal to overturn the conviction but a judge ruled against the “Caribbean Girls” singer today (October 18). The judge says he find no fault in the Resident Magistrate’s Court ruling.

Mavado will now have to pay the fine or face jail time.
