I-Octane Opens Up About His Brand Of Dancehall [VIDEO]

Reggae/dancehall singjay I-Octane is one of the most prolific new artists in the genre over the last few years.

Contrasts to hardcore dancehall, I-Octane music is more socially conscious with a mix of roots reggae. Similar to popular acts like Buju Banton and Sizzla.

In the sixth episode of Noisey Jamaica new dancehall web series, host Codine Williams caught up with the singjay at the studio.

“I started music from a tener age, early from school days,” I-Octane says. “I got detention and suspension, you know while teacher operating me bright enough making noise with music in the class long before I even knew I was going to pursue a career in music. Ghetto communities most of my friends are involved in crime and violence but I decided not to be a non-progressive element.”

I-Octane also spoke candidly about his image and not getting caught up in the hype.
