Jimmy Cliff “Rebirth” Wins Grammy For Best Reggae Album

Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff won his second Grammy today for Best Reggae Album with his critically acclaim disc “Rebirth.”

The reggae star went into the Grammy Awards with stiff competition from The Original Wailers (Miracle), Sean Paul (Tomahawk Technique), Toots & The Maytals (Reggae Got Soul: Unplugged On Strawberry Hill), and Sly & Robbie & The Jam Masters (New England – Jamaica 50th Edition).

This marks Jimmy Cliff’s second Grammy. He won his first Grammy Award in 1985 with his album Cliff Hanger.

Rebirth was produced by Rancid’s Tim Armstrong and features the singles “World Upside Down,” “Guns Of Brixton,” “Reggae Music,” and “Cry No More.”

The album peaked at number 76 in the U.S. and number 83 in the U.K.

Jimmy Cliff was not present at the Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles to accept his award.
