Tommy Lee Headlines Sting 2012

Will Tommy Lee be the biggest act at this year’s staging of Sting?

The “Uncle Demon” deejay will be the headlining act for Sting 29 to be held on December 26th at Jamworld Entertainment Centre in Portmore.

Tommy Lee, who released his Uncle Demon mixtape last month, is currently heavy demand both in Jamaica and overseas. Thanks to a slew of hits and some mentoring from Vybz Kartel, Tommy Lee is currently the most popular dancehall act locally.

“Tommy Lee is really the person this year that everybody is going to be focusing on,” says Isaiah Laing, the promoter behind Sting.

“Wi bringing back the show to the level that the people want. This year, look for a bumper crowd,” he added.

Last year Sting saw a dramatic drop in the crowd that fans attribute to the absence of Vybz Kartel and Mavado. However this year saw the rise of a slew of new dancehall acts including Tommy Lee, Popcaan, I-Octane, Khago and more.

Vybz Kartel Urged Tommy Lee To End Beef With Bounty Killer

“Last year, we went for the young artistes and the young generals; they are mature now,” Laing said. “One of them was Tommy Lee. A lot of people weren’t even focusing on him then, but Heavy D and I knew what he had in him. We said this artiste going to be one of the baddest artistes within the dancehall.”

Laing said Sting will be showcasing 50 artists this year as part of Jamaica 50th anniversary. The promoters of Sting will hold an official press launch in November and Tommy Lee will be the face of the show.
